Immediately my thought was, he wants to back out of the engagement.
He sounds just from that, like a guy who will blame you for "letting" him engage in "sinful" premarital activity that causes his guilt.
It is much less painful to change your mind before the wedding, though it may not seem like it now. Also, that kind of stuff is a HUGE red flag.
Don't ignore it.

It is silly, unwise and against all commonsense to ostracize your family just on the say so of other people! OH you must not risk offending Jehovah! If the elders have df someone, you have to shun them!
Why? I want to know what they did MY OWN SELF, so that I can decide if I want to go along with your shunning.
OH NO we can't give you that information! That is a big ol' fat SECRET - you just have to trust us, God wants you to just quit having anything to do with your family member and if you don't, you're gonna die along with them.

Getting burned by people in the congregation has hurt just as much or more than anything before I was in WT or since.

Being in the WT cult was a terrible way of living. So being free from them, the life enjoyment goes way, way up!

Don't they have free legal representation provided by lawyers who are in the WT? So that eliminates labor as an expense, if so.

Read Crisis of Conscience Online ---if you google that phrase you can read the book online. Then clear the browser if someone else has access to your computer!

I'm an old person living in the southern U.S., i lost 30 years in the WT corporation as a baptized publisher. I was so unhappy but I thought it was just because i wasn't a good enough Witness.
A few different things happened that got me woke up and deciding to leave but when I began to realize that it is a CULT i was in, and that I had been subjected to intense mind control, and read Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz, then the break was final.
there wouldn't have been any good way to hear the news i suppose.
it's just so strange to recall the conversation yesterday.
my "still in" parents are with me and my inactive sister having a pleasant conversation.
The terrible lies are death-dealing.
One time a family member of mine saw a neighbor stumble out of his back door and lay down in the yard. After that he didn't move. The police told that he died. The neighbor's family came and told that he had been so cheerful and well the last time they saw him. His belongings were packed so neatly when they went in.
Point being, he made a plan and they would not have been able to stop him from choosing to pass on.
It is so extremely painful and sad to realize a friend was feeling so bad, but don't pile guilt on to yourself, dear forum friends.
